Patriot Walk 2010 A HUGE SUCCESS FOR TEA PARTY

Kent, Ohio -  The Portage County TEA Party Patriot Walk 2010, Saturday, September 25th, 2010, was a huge success with 217 actual teams of volunteer members going door to door in every township in Portage County.  Over 365 volunteers distributed the official list of Portage County TEA Party PAC Endorsed Candidates during the day.  Executive Director Tom Zawistowski said, “By our count, we reached about 13.8% of the homes in Portage County, which is a pretty impressive start.  Our team of volunteers in Edinburg Township reached the highest percentage of homes in their township, taking materials to 33.4% of all households.  That is just amazing. We will keep delivering our door hangers to voters all the way to election day in an effort to get people to vote and vote for our recommended candidates. I am very proud of our membership, we made a huge impact today.”

The Portage County TEA Party PAC is legally allowed to endorse local and state candidates and has gone through a long process of interviewing candidates, asking them to fill out questionnaires and having them speak to the membership before deciding who to endorse. The complete list of TEA Party PAC-endorsed candidates, including videos of most candidates, can be found by clicking on the “Our PAC’s Endorsements” link on the front page of the website at www.PortageCountyTEAParty.com.

The TEA Party is not a political party but a political movement.  It is loosely based on the Boston Tea Party of 1773 in which American Colonists rebelled against “Taxation Without Representation” of the King of England and the English Parliament by dumping highly-taxed tea into Boston Harbor.  The initials TEA are today used to show that many current American citizens feel that they are “Taxed Enough Already” by the U.S. Government as well as by state and local governments. The movement is attempting to motivate common American citizens to take a more active role in selecting, and electing, leaders who are committed to representing the people who elected them rather than the interests of political parties and other special interest groups.
